Meet Our Speaker: Sefakor Komabu-Pomeyie
Sefakor G.M.A. Komabu-Pomeyie, PhD, is the Director of Intercultural Excellence in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Vermont, USA. She is a lecturer, author, policy analyst, and advocate whose work lies at the intersection of workplace health, disability inclusion, and occupational safety. Sefakor is also the founder of ‘Enlightening and Empowering People with Disabilities in Africa’ (EEPD Africa,https://eepdafrica.com/), an organisation dedicated to advancing the rights, inclusion, and wellbeing of people with disabilities across Africa. Through her work, she is committed to identifying workplace hazards, promoting inclusive occupational health practices, and supporting organisations in creating equitable, healthy, and safe working environments where everyone can thrive.
Webinar Topic:
 
Sefakor will focus on the important intersection of disability and workplace hazards, and the impact of both on mental health, helping to strengthen awareness, improve workplace protections, and promote more inclusive occupational health practices for workers with disabilities.  Sefakor’s passion for health equity, inclusion, and safer workplaces aligns closely with WHWB’s mission of protecting workers globally and advancing healthy work environments for all.
 
This timely and practical session will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to recognise, understand, and respond effectively to signs of mental health challenges in adults, at home and in the workplace.
 
Learning Objectives: 
 
By the end of the presentation, participants will have a better understanding of disability and mental health in terms of:
  • What is disability?
  • What is mental health and what is stigma?
  • What is a mental health challenge?
  • How to identify early signs and symptoms in our workplaces
Explaining the five steps of the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Action Plan and applying the ‘ALGEE’ mnemonic
